For the sustainable society which is the objective of the SDGs, the “energy problem” is an issue of the greatest importance in the manufacturing industry where large amounts of electrical power are used, and must be resolved. When first considering what we can do, the use of machines which consume less electrical power is a plan which is easy to put into action.
At Sodick, we have adopted a newly developed energy-saving pump system for our wire-cut EDM (*1). In a conventional wire-cut EDM, around 70% of the power consumed was consumed in the fluid pumping process. By controlling the pump frequency to the optimal value according to the machining conditions, these products achieve energy savings up to 20% compared to conventional models (*2).
The UX450L and HP300L machining centers include an idling stop function. This function automatically turns OFF the power when the machine is not used for a certain length of time. Power ON/OFF can be changed easily and the activation timing can also be set as needed. By contributing to saving energy in the immediate environment without affecting machining, we can take action that is certain to improve the future.

At Sodick, we are working to develop environmentally friendly products in order to contribute to the environment through manufacturing. For example, wire-cut EDM use a wire electrode. Throwing the wire away after machining is not an environmentally friendly thing to do, is it?
The wire recycling system that Sodick proposes is technology for collecting used wires as a valuable resource and melting them to recycle them into completely new wire electrodes that can be used for high-precision machining. The reborn wire electrodes are then delivered to the customer. We also collect used wires from other manufacturers.
Sodick recycling systems also include the “Eco-Ion R” ion exchange resin and the “Eco Filter SHF-25R” internal pressure-type filter.
